If you’re someone who lives with stomach issues, then you know how it feels to wake up with a flat stomach, but then have progressively more bloating, pain and cramping as the day goes on.
Sitting down for a meal probably triggers anxiety, because you never really know what’s going to set you off, and the pain can get so bad that you can’t eat. You may have tried elimination diets like low-FODMAP or going gluten-free or dairy-free, but your symptoms still haven’t gone away entirely.
It’s like playing “whack a mole,” where maybe you can get the bloating under control for a little while, but then the cramping and pain get worse.
And if you’ve been struggling for a long time, then you’ve already been in and out of doctors’ offices, had all the scopes and imaging, countless blood tests and stool samples, but everything comes back clean.
(Even your doctor is probably confused and has no idea what to do next.)
This is sadly VERY common.
We actually see a lot of patients whose stomach pain doesn’t seem to have an obvious cause or explanation at first.
And, like you, they’d “tried it all” and had a bunch of lab testing done before coming to see us.
A Really Important Missing Piece
In cases like these, what’s often missing is that nobody has looked for toxic exposures in your environment – something OUTSIDE of yourself.
Here’s why this is so important:
As doctors who specialize in environmental medicine, we know that there can be toxic substances lurking in your home, car or office that directly impact your gut health (and they’re very sneaky!)
For example, the chemicals found in everyday cleaning supplies and beauty products can actually irritate your body and cause ongoing gut inflammation.
Another hidden environmental cause of stomach issues is toxic mold.
A lot of people get exposed to mold because of water damage in their home or office (think leaks, flooding, etc.).
Mold can easily get into your body and colonize your GI tract, leading to stomach pain, diarrhea or constipation, and other irritable bowel symptoms.
So, as you can see, getting relief from stomach issues can require some deep detective work that goes beyond what you eat or what supplements you take.
Sometimes it’s about REMOVING certain triggers from your environment so that your body has the opportunity to heal.
When you get all of this right, you should start noticing less stomach pain, easier bowel movements, less bloating, and remarkably improved digestion so you can finally enjoy your food.
Sometimes full recovery can take several months, but we find that most of our patients start noticing relief from their GI symptoms within just a few weeks.
As part of our 8-week Body Bliss program, we help you get special testing to find out if mold is causing your symptoms – or what else it could be.
From there we’ll help you identify and remove the gut-damaging toxins from your environment, and we also share our professional gut-healing protocols plus strategies for getting good sleep, balanced hormones, and better energy.
